996 C4 with C2 tranny
Discovered PO did this. Did this screw up the PSM? Should I keep it off? It runs fine on or off but I haven’t really beaten it yet. Car is a 99.

As long as the sensors are in place at the wheels, PSM will continue to function normally.
Sorry to hear about the discovery. Hopefully you can source good used replacement parts if you wan t to restore the AWD that you should have. It still won't be cheap... front axles, diff, and transmission. |

I actually prefer 2wd. So turning PSM off should be fine?

I have heard that the PSM light may come on when you convert the RWD on Tiptronic transmissions. You did not mention your PSM light coming on so I'll assume you have a manual transmission.
On my 996tt I converted to RWD by removing the front-drive shafts, front differential, and Cardan shaft. I have no lights and PSM seems to work fine. I believe PSM would only come on when wheel slippage is detected under power. Since you are no longer powering the front wheels, they would never slip like they would if they were being powered and lost traction.
