2000 911 start issue
Interesting situation, if I take the car out and run on the highway no problem. If I take car on an errand or stop and go traffic, the car will stall, or I get to short distance destination, shut car off, temp hasn't reached 180, come back, car will crank but no start. this has happen 4 times, in each case if I wait 30 to 40 minutes, car will start again fast crank, so not a starter or battery issue. I'm leaning to a Fuel pressure regulator, because in the no start period I feel there is no fuel, no slight catch, just steady cranking. I believe a Crank position sensor would either work or not. After the car restarts, I drive home, shut the engine off and it restarts fine. No codes showing up.
The drive where I get on the highway seems to eliminate the cause . Car has 43k, went thru an extensive refresh engine out, AOC, most hoses, clutch, IMS, fuel pump, anything that a 20 year old would need. Of course, this being a New England car, it gets very little use in the winter, and this started this spring. Thoughts, ideas, comments welcome |

Check your crank position sensor, they are a simple Hall effect unit that tend to crap out when hot.

thanks, I had a miata that had both Cam and Crank position sensor, I know on the Cam sensor it was either good or bad/no start, so what you are saying is Crank can be both. My confusion is the engine was not quite up to 180 in the 4 times it quit. I can drive the car on the highway with no effect (so far!!!!!) and it will start after with no issue after a hour of driving. I hope you are right, I will order and replace the sensor and update results.
