Porsche 996 Turbo - Clunk before Driving?
It's winter in the Pacific Northwest and I don't drive the car very often. I notice that when I first start to back the car up after sitting for a few days, I need to bring the RPM up a little and then there is clunk somewhere in the drivetrain before it starts moving. After that, the drive train runs smoothly. Not sure if it's something that needs immediate attention or if it's common in these cars, any help would be appreciated.

Are you parking inside or outside? Look at your brake rotors before moving. If there is a bit of rust from the high PNW winter humidity, then your pads are sticking to the rotor. If indoors and you put it away wet, they can do that as well.

I hadn't thought of the brakes, but that could definitely be it. I park the car inside the garage and have been using the parking brake. I'll check them next time I take the car out. Thanks for weighing in.

Hi. New to the Forum. I have a GTI that gets parked outside and if I don't use if for a week the exact same thing happens. I probably couldn't move the car by hand if I had to. Only letting up the clutch breaks the bond of the pads to the rotors and the car is free again. It DOES however make a slight scraping noise (I mean very slight) until the rusty surface is cleaned up by driving. It takes maybe five miles until there is no noise at all.
