Rattle that happens when AC Compressor on and clutch out

I have an odd rattling sound coming from the back of my car. Usually comes on after the car has been driven for awhile. Seems to only happen when the AC compressor is on and the clutch pedal is out (car in neutral). If I press the clutch, the noise goes away, or at least gets much quieter. Same happens if I turn off the AC switch.

Hoping someone else has come across this issue and knows what the fix is...

Yea I had that too. Was told it was the aftermarket clutch lwfw rattling around, no problem it’s normal. Had the tranny rebuilt for another reason and the rattle is now gone. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll put up with the minor irritation until I have a need to drop the engine

You don’t need to drop the engine to do the clutch. Tranny only, and a much easier job.

Good to know Tony. So I guess I'm unsure of where the rattle is coming from, flywheel, input shaft, clutch, other? Based on the records I have the clutch and flywheel were replaced within the last 5 years, I think with factory dual mass flywheel and standard clutch?

Usually the rattle will be there if the car has a lightweight flywheel. I probably wouldn’t lose sleep over it!
