Brake Pad Replacement Question

A squeaking brake question.

Yes I admit I should have turned/replaced the rotors when I did this project but instead I replaced the pads, wear sensors, and replaced the dampening pads. (With parts sourced from our host -of course). The rotors had a lot of “meat” on them.

Prior to the pad change the brakes would squeak when warm. When the wear indicator light came on I replaced the pads.

I’ve only put 60 miles on the new pads and they still squeak (not as much- but they do).

Here is the question: Are the squeaking brakes (when warm) because of not turning the rotors or simply an issue with the brake pad material? Is it likely the squeak will go away completely as the pads get broken in?

What pads did you put on? Are there any wear grooves in the rotors where the drilled holes are. Is there a lip on top?
Did you bed the brakes to match surface or the pas to the surface of the rotor?
OH, and did you put and brake grease behind the pad where the pistons push the pad out?

I used Textar (Front). Mintex (Rear)

There were no groves at the drilled holes in the rotor.

There is a small lip at the top of the rotor.

No I did not put grease.

Can’t say exactly how pads were seated I had my tire shop do the brake pad swap. I didn’t feel like breaking out the floor jack at home. He stated he couldn’t turn the rotors because his machine was down.

If the squeaking doesn’t resolve in the next 500 miles I’ll probably bite the bullet and replace everything

Many folks suggest you "bed in" the brake pads. This could minimize the squeal. But things may be more complicated because of the pad material already on the rotor having to interact with new pad material. I also like to use a conservative amount of the sticky, vibration dampening, spray on material.
