997 Headlight install

I removed the headlights of my new to me 2010 Carrera S Cabriolet. Then installed/wired Morimoto LED headlights. The old lights came out as advertised in the OM. Turn the supplied tool towards the front of the car and both lights popped up as designed. However, the reinstallation of the new lights stalled out after struggling to line everything up in the grooves/tracks. I am not able to turn the locking device to snap the lights into place. Is it me or an unidentified gremlin that is causing the problem. Once the lights are in the tracks you can't see what is going on. Help please so I don't have to limp into a mech to plead ineptness.
