Smoke on battery reconnect
996.2 Carr. Cab. Just tried to reconnect the battery (+ 1st per srandard procedure) and noted a. that the terminal spark was a bit more substantial than expecred, b. a motor behind the spare immediately started screaming (spunded like the HL washer motor), and c. thick smoke started coming out of the engine firewall area (in that general viscinity as near as I could tell). I quickly disconnected the battery. No fuses burnt. Battery was pulse trickle-charged over the last 4 months of the winter. Car was in storage. No mice or squirrels. Car was running perfectly upon puttin it away - of course! Anyone have this issue? Any ideas? I am looking at rolling it onto a float and getting my mech to troubleshoot this now.

Any chance you installed the battery backwards ?
