991.1 Purchase

Hello All,
I’ve recently looked at & test driven a few 991.1 Carreras 3.4 & 3.8 as I’m planning to buy one to replace the 997 Targa 4S I just sold. I’ve noticed most of these cars having very sooty tail pipes & some having oil consumption. The vehicles I’ve looked at were at various mileage such as 49K, 75K & 37K. Knowing about M97 bore scoring & that it is also possible in 9A1 motors has me worried. Is this something that is common on these cars? Totally freaked out as I don’t want to dump $60-$70K on a nice 991 & have to worry about this issue as well. Any input would be appreciated.
