997.2 air bag light

The air bag light on the dash is on after my battery discharged. This happened several years ago when my battery discharged and the light went off after several start/stop cycles. This time, the light has stayed on after about 8 start/stops.

I have the durametric scanning software, and the fault code is 8057 AWS control unit read out fault memory. The fault code will not erase.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

8057: AWS (Auto or Advanced Weight Sensor, depending on where you read it - the passenger seat weight sensor ) needs to be calibrated using the PIWIS. This is done automatically when the tool is plugged in and takes a minute.

I assume the PIWIS is Porche's computer and not available elsewhere.

As a normal course of events, we regularly recommend against spending money on unauthorized and illegitimate versions of the PIWIS system that often pop up on the internet, usually by Asian firms that specialize is selling very questionable knock off systems. Porsche does not sell this system, it only leases it, and all real PIWIS systems are networked, not free standing. We have also seen some of these clones cannot do even simple functions that a $100 OBD II scanner can and can actually damage the electronics in vehicles as they are not the real thing. Spend your hard-earned cash at your own risk.................

Thanks for the information. I'm not about to spend another good chunk of money on another diagnostic system to erase one code (or mayby others too).

If sounds like having the dealer do this is my only option.

That or a well-equipped indie, I would suggest checking with your local PCA chapter for someone nearby. The entire process literally takes a few seconds.

JFP in PA: Yes, I was thinking the same thing. We have an active PCA chapter here, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or several of them had the correct software.
