What to look for

Well, after a week of talks the 87 944 turbo is going in for a PPI.. wondering if you guy's had any specific items that the mechanic should specifically look for and check over..

Oil leaks
Compression Check
Various Electrical Stuff
Vacuum Leaks
Current Draw (Amps at Battery) when running and when not running

That's my 2¢.

right funtion of water turbo pump ..

1. When was the clutch done? ~2K
2. When was the water pump/rollers/belts done? ~1.5K
3. Has the head gasket ever been done? If its the original its gonna go soon. ~1-1.5K

If all have been done recently.... HOORAY.....

Each of the remaining maintenance bills will be sub 1K. Well that is if you do the work youself.... Just make sure you have 2K to spend in the first year regardless of how glowing a report you get back....

What is the mileage on this one ?

Mine with 49 k miles have not water pump replacement .. but reading your post and the amount of money indicated .. I need to ask ..

How mucho longer is the water pump life .. ?

.......... 100K.......... but with the age of your car.

Right about now it should start to fail...........

Its one of those things that will probably make it to your next belt change.....

At that point you can do it all.....

if the mechanic doesn't already know, he shouldn't be looking. we can give you a whole list of things to check, but if it isn't done by a competent Porsche mechanic, then he won't necessarily know how to assess what he's inspecting. best bet is to find a good tech in your area and let him do it
