One of the many?? There were 911 Turbos that had that occur, but the 951 didn't have any of that as far as I've heard. 944 Turbos were plentiful from the factory in the US and converting a Euro to US and importing it would cost far more than just buying one at a dealership.

The 911 Turbos were grey-marketed in because Porsche had pulled the model from the US and the grey market was the only way to get a 911 Turbo in the US for a while.

heard of, or actually seen yourself?

of the 50+ 951's that i personally have seen both in the states and in canada, none were grey market euro's.

wow you must have some awesome euro connections to know so many euro-spec 951 owners. the only one i've heard of is one guy out in toronto.

it's really not that uncommon, the us dollar was equal to 3 deutschmarks.. at that rate you could get a car for rougly 1/3 of the price of a car in the US..

actually, given the choice, a euro-spec 951 would be preferable to a us-spec car because the euro version made more power.

And the $ and paperwork to get it certified so that you could put plates on it would have run easily high enough to negate the cost differential. Plus you would have had to fit all the US emissions controls and replace the bumpers to US spec units, change the marker lights etc.

The most likely case is that the OPs contacts are as mistaken as the guy who claimed he once had one of the prototype V6 924s back in the 1970's...

i agree. one point though, is that in washington state, a properly running 951 will easily pass emissions regardless if it's euro spec or running a cat or not.

True, but to be imported into the US it would have had to pass federal customs, which would have required a cat and all US-spec safety equipment.

i'd still prefer a euro spec if i were buying used, since all this would have already been taken care of.

the diference between euro specs and us specs in the power line are only the cat..

Euro specs haven't it and is the ( only ) reazon to make more power .. ? or have other little modifications ..?

there are other stuff that makes the euro more attractive. no side marker lights, smoother rear bumper, etc.

the power issue is actually incorrect. both US and Euro are the same. a misunderstanding comes in when one forgets to consider the difference between hp and ps. euro cars are rated in PS, US in hp

exempli gratia: 1986 euro 951 @ 220 hp

1 ps = .987 hp

hence:

220 ps = 217 hp

Tapage, you're correct. take off the cat and for all intents and purposes, you have achieved "euro spec"
