Maf, Map, Hfm5

I hear a lot of discussion about going with a MAF over a MAP, or vice-versa. Further, it looks like FRWilk is working on an HFM5 (Bosch Hot-Wire) kit for the 951.

What is an MAF?

What as an MAP?

Is the HFM5 an MAP or MAF?

MAF: Mass Air Flow

MAP: Manifold Absolute Pressure

The advantage of a MAF is that it can be a "drop-in" replacement for our stock AFM, and it flows much better. Downside is that with a MAF, like with the AFM, vented boost from the BOV has to be re-circulated.

A MAP is more difficult to install since more has to be changed, but it allows the use of much larger BOVs that vent to atmosphere. Useful if you're using a larger turbo.

In mildly modified 951's you will find MAFs will idle/run more like stock.......where as some map systems will have some strange idle characteristics (link being one of them).
