I am trying to determine Fuchs wheel firments for my 1986 944 Turbo, and I need some help!
On the Porsche web site, there is a photo of the 1986 "Turbo Cup" car, shown with Fuchs wheels. To find the photo I am referring to, do the following: - Go to www.porsche.com and select "USA" from the pulldown - Mouse over "Accessories & Service" and click "Porsche Classic" - Click "Classic Models" from the menu at the right - Click "Racing Cars" from the menu at the left - Click "Porsche Racing History" at the far right - Click "Racing Cars" from the resulting menu - Select "944" from the "select a racing car" pulldown menu The car that you come to is a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup car, shown with Fuchs wheels. (If you want to see a larger picture, click the "experience" tab and you can download a large image...) But looking at the wheels, they appear to be wider than the Fuchs wheels that were available on the road versions. Instead of 16x7's and 16x8's, they look to me like 16x8's and 16x9's or something. Does that make sense? If so, which Fuchs wheels do I use? I assume I can use the regular 16x8's that go on the rear of the road car on the FRONT of my road car, correct? If so, then which 16x9's do I use on the rear? Or am I missing something? Getting confused? It wouldn't be the first time... Thanks in advance, Paul [email protected] |

In case anyone cares, it turns out that the 1986 Turbo Cup cars did indeed come with 16x8's and 16x9's. The 8's are the same 951-part number Fuchs that were an option for the REAR of the street cars, and the rear 16x9's are the ones that went on the rear of the 911 Turbo (the only 16x9 Fuchs ever made.)

Yes, they were the optional wheel in 1986 only, before the cars had ABS. But the factory optional wheels were 16x7's and 16x8's. Great wheels, to be sure, and particularly nice looking on some colors. I love them, for example, on white cars.

Actually saw one of these cars over the weekend in Tulsa at Cimarron Tech. Very trick, very original, with, tada! 8x16 and 9x16 Fuchs.
Matter rollcage factory installed, also.

Yeah, that's exactly the look I'm creating on my car. I have the 16"x8's for the front already (the 951 part number wheels used on the rear, usually), and the 16"x9's for the rear on order. After speaking with the guys from Wheel Enhancement, they say the 16"x9's on the rear of these 1986 Turbo Cup cars were the exact same 16"x9's used on the rear of the 911 Turbo. There is apparently nothing unusual about the offset that is specific to the 944 Turbo. So those are the ones I bought. Now I just have to wait until they come in, and then I'll report my results and post pictures...

Sure. The fronts I bought right here on this list, and I paid $875 for the pair, including shipping. They are virtually perfect, and the seller is a great guy. I think they proved to be quite a good deal. The rears I bought on eBay, and they were $800 each, plus shipping. Pretty pricey, but interestingly, I also heard that Automobile Atlanta is now offering replicas of the 16"x9" that they claim are very, very high quality. Produced by some famous racing wheel guy or something. I don't know. There are no replicas of the fronts, though, so those you have to find originals. The fronts must be the particular (and rather rare) 16"x8" with the 951 part number, and there are no replicas of those anywhere in the world. Or at least, none that I am aware of.

Will 16X9 Fuchs fit all 86-89 911 Turbo rears or only non-abs cars??

Thanks. I have an extra set of 16X9 Fuchs from my Carrera and I'm shopping for a 951 so I guess only an 86 turbo could make use of them
