swapping hoods

The PO I bought my 87 951 from said he swapped the hood from an 86 951. The hood is blemish free and nice but there are major gaps between the hood and fenders-like I can see the fender bolts. Is the 86 hood narrower or did he not align everythting correctly? BTW, all the body panels are straight as can be and lined up nice. Thanks

Mike

Okay thanks. I heard from someone else today that they are the same size, and I need to align everything. Thanks again.

Mike - when the hood is installed it is typical that the way they tighten the hinge bolts will cause the hood to shift left or right.

For proper alignment try to get some to help you and keep the unit aligned. It might require several goes by losening and then tighting the bolts on the base of the hinges not the hood itself - if they are what was loosened before - if not - a quick visual will tell you - then do the ones on the hood.

Its like changing a door - a PITA to get perfect the first time.
