Need help: Head stud repair
I am having my block sleeved with the Darton MID wet sleeves. The shop just sent me this email:
I TOOK THE HEAD STUDS OUT OF THE BLOCK, BECAUSE WE CAN'T MACHINE THE BLOCK W/ THEM IN. ONE OF THE FRONT STUDS, WHILE REMOVING IT, TORE THE THREADS OUT OF THE BLOCK. THIS WAS CAUSED BY SOMEONE INSTALLING A HELICOIL IN THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK, IN ONE OF THE WATER PUMP HOLES. THEY DRILLED INTO THE HEAD STUD, WHICH PUT A BURR ON THE STUD, SO WHILE UNTHREADING THE STUD, IT STRIPPED OUT THE STUDS. THE PROBLEM IS, I CAN'T FIND A THREAD REPAIR KIT FOR THAT SIZE, THAT WILL GO DOWN INTO A HOLE THAT IS 5" DEEP. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY PORSCHE SPECIALTY SHOPS OUT YOUR WAY, OR OUT OUR WAY, THAT MIGHT BE OF SOME ASSISTANCE. I DON'T WANT TO SLEEVE THE BLOCK YET, UNTIL WE KNOW THAT IT CAN BE FIXED. They are pretty confident that they can helicoil the block but I talked to him on the phone and he was thinking someone might have a solid thread insert kit or something along those lines. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks -Paul

The block can be Timserted. You will need to modify the tools so reach is extended and make a bush (for the head stud hole) to center them.
