How remove door guards?

How do you remove the door protector strips that run halfway down across the outside of 944/951 doors? I will need to remove the strips to mount magnetic numbers for track days. I can find no screw or other mounting piece in the center of the plug that seems to hold the strip onto the back edge of the door. Sorry for the simple-minded question; thanks for any help.

I think they are just held on with an adhesive. Having removed similar things from other vehicles, I'd go with a heat gun on a low setting and a plastic scraper...and a few hours of free time.

Ugh -- Or cut the numbers in half and put half above the strip and half below. Thanks, even for the bad news.
