steam from battery

stalled the 87 944 turbo when putting it in garage.engine would not turn over. battery went flat took key out of ignition , wurring noise came from engine now and again for 2 mins.

steam started comming out of battery. disconected battery.

put battery back on jump started the car everything ok

any ideas

Wirring is probably the turbo pump ...........

STEAM coming out of the battery. FROM where? the cells themselves? Thats kinda scary having a battery boil on you.
