New 944 owner from CT.....

My name Is Adam I just bought my first porsche, an 86 944/na guards red five speed, after a long line of mustangs...I absolutly love the car. The first couple days. I was looking for excuses to go places. These cars are amazing road cars. I've already ordered 18" rims and tires and should have them by friday. The car has had a ton of recent service work including, clutch, timing belt, water pump, that oil seal that always goes, all new brakes with the brembo cross drilled rotors, and a new stereo with all new polk speakers and a sony cd. I've already had the first issue though...The slave cylinder let go last night when I went to take it to my softball game. Fluid is leaking out from the slave dripping off the starter and burning off of the exhaust. My wife picked up my new master and slave after work today so I guess I'll be getting my hands dirty this weekend....I'll take some pics and post them up after I get the new wheels on it this weekend....This is a great site and has already been a great resource!! I look forward to meeting some of the local guys soon...

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

My slave has gone out 2X in 9 years but I am still running on the original master. The slave is exposed to many more of the elements than the master which is why I think they go out so fast. Junk works it's way past the seal and caused corrosion. The slave is easy to swap out. Just remove the starter and it is right there. I use the Motive pressure bleader to blead it out which make it a 1 person job in 5 minutes.

Welcome aboard and drive the heck out of her.

BTW how does the 944 compare to your old Mustangs as far as acceleration, handeling, braking and so on?

Speedy

My last mustang was a 99 Gt that put down 546 rwhp and 560 rwtq. It had a big turbo and a built bottom end. It was fun but was almost "too much" power. It was interesting getting sideways at 90 and being able to outrun 600cc sportbike on the highway but all thats eventually going to do is get you in trouble... Plus I was in constant fear of breaking something major for the second and third time....The 944 on the other hand is just amazing I never knew a car could be so well balanced and smooth....I don't think I could ever bring my self to drive another american sportscar again....
