Thought it was the slave????
Well I was having a problem with the clutch returning from the floor and the car was shifting like crap so I bought a new master and slave and jacked the car up today to start on the slave and as soon as I looked up at the slave I noticed a bolt stuck behind the slave cylinder. I had my brother in law step on the clutch and I pulled the bolt free. I took the car for a ride and it shifts like a champ...I'm a little nervous about where the bolt came from but the car seems fine. The leak I had that's dripping on the exhaust looks to be the valve cover gasket. It looks to be an easy gasket to do..Is it something I should tackle myself or let a shop do? Thanks any help....

The whole cam assembly comes out when taking off the cam housing/valve cover. If you're not familiar with timing belts, have a shop do it for you.

Figures......How expensive a job is just a gasket replacement the belts were done only a little over a thousand miles ago....

I just did my cam tower gasket, belts and fuel injector seals. I had about 10 hours into the project. I am not sure what the book hours on it is though.
What is your location?

 I'm going to have to find a porsche knowledgable mechanic In my area I guess...

there is a belt changing party being organized in your area. Sounds like a perfect time to join in and fix your problem. You will learn a lot from guys like Techno Duck and next time, the belts will be an easy task for you. There is a thread on it here recently, do a search and save yourself some money and learn a lot. It's more fun when you can do these things yourself.

Are you serious about the belt changing party??? I'd like to learn to do it myself...It would save a ton of time and money...I just don't think I can wait...I've got my new wheels coming tuesday and I just got the car recently and really want to drive it....

I had my valve cover changed recently for $500. It was a good deal at a good shop. The gasket was completely cooked to the block, so that's where all the hours went.
