Okay, I looked in my manual that I have and it says the DME unit should be located under the dash near the instrument cluster to the left of the steering column. I'm not seeing my DME there. Every picture of a DME unit I've seen is a silver metallic box.
What am I missing???????

I'm not sure about the S model, but the NA DME is located under the carpet in the right floor. Grab the carpet on the passenger side at the top and fold it down and see if you see anything there.

Thanks Tom, that's the problem with stupid manuals, they aren't necessarily accurate for certain models. I was hoping my question was a noob question. I'll go check it out!

That's exactly where it was. I've already gotten it out of the car, now to open it up and install my new chip. Thanks!

Okay, I've got the cover off the DME and the circuit boards are exposed. How do I seperate the boards to install the chip? I don't want to force the issue and break anything here so I would rather take my time and get the answer from someone who's already done this. Thanks!

By the ribbon cable are two plastic locking posts. Just pry up with a screw driver and the posts will come up still attached with the top portion of the DME board.

How do I remove the black plastic piece on the opposite end where the cable plugs into the DME unit? The only pic I could find of a chip install shows that housing removed and the board opened up per your instructions above. Thanks!

Once the tabs are released you lift up and away.

I've got the two locking posts on the end with the cable loose, but I cannot get the top board to release from the plug on the end of the DME unit. I've tried pulling on it gently, I've tried carefully prying the board away from the plug while holding the clip inside the plug aside. Nothing seems to want to give. Any ideas?

Ok, once you pry the tabs off the outer cover and remove it.....
Pop these tabs up, like so... Then go to dme harness/connector point. Push the 2 circle tabs the direction the arrows show you. While also using a screw drive to push the board out of place. I have changed chip about 10 times and I have to push the **** out of it to get it to pop out of place. So don't be gentle, LOL. Once opened, it will look like this. The chip circled is the one you will be replacing. With a screw driver carefully pry up the stock chip, going from one side to the other slowly working it out. Once it is out, this is what it will look like.... Ok, now when installing your new chip, be sure to line up the little notches (one on the chip, and one where the chip goes. they are circle in yellow).

Thanks Jesse! I finally figured out how to remove the upper board this morning. I think I was too tired and too frustrated last night. I figured it out after about 5 minutes this morning.
I just installed the 944SMax chip (final version) and took my son out for a spirited drive through a couple of industrial parks. I can definitely feel the difference in torque, and the power felt smoother than the old aftermarket chip that was in there. Thanks for a great product Russell!!!
