HELP. I just bought 944-1 FRwilk Perf Chip

Hi guys (and gals?),
I just ordered the FRWILK Chip and Board from FR yesterday. I guess that it should be arriving early next week because he works on the boards and stuff during the weekends. The instructions LOOK simple. I have to CUT OUT four of the chips and solder the board into the holes of the middle chip.
Has anyone done done? Mine is my BEAUTIFUL 1983 944 and I feel that I am like a surgeon operating on it's Brilliant brain.
I NEED TO PURCHASE/BORROW an early DME UNIT. Please let me know if you have an extra that you know of that is working and CHEAP I am near broke because I paid FR 362.00 through PAYPAL. It would have been 350. if I had sent a Postal Money Order. I want to go through the whole procedure on the board and hopefully it will be a GREAT SUCCESS and others will want to buy the FRWILK early PERFORMANCE CHIP!!!!. I will keep you posted but I will need some hand holding on this one. I AM SCARED!! Therefore an extra DME would definitely be helpful so that I can use my 944 (It is my daily driver to the Bronx!!!!)
Thanks!

Find someone with some electrical/soldering experience and it isn't bad at all. I wouldn't bother getting the second DME, just take your time because there is no going back

Let us know when you get the chip. I sent you an email with some places that might have the part you were looking for. Hopefully that helps.

I have a spare DME but I haven't tested it. If it works, it could be your backup plan. I agree in that you shouldn't be too worried, and if in doubt, take it to someone who can solder. Good luck!

Thanks guys.
FR wanted to know if I changed my mind.....NO WAY!
I am excited and will let you'all know the difference as soon as i put it in. I read countless times that this is the best cost/performance item for the 944. I LOVE my car...my wife is so jealous of all the attention i give 944,

I really hope it's wilk and not someone who has hijacked his email address... sounds sketchy to me that he'd be back in production and not (even somewhat) active on the forum...

its wilk alright. i used his paypal account that he has had for five years.
i am glad it worked out - him coming back just when I was ready to put some zest into 944.

my only problem is that someone hijacked his account on pelican earlier his year.... and someone also got a hold of his email passwords...

if they could do that, they could very easily get his paypal password too through a 'forgot my password' thing on paypal's site..

not saying it isn't him... i'm just saying i hope it *is* him.

That's why I asked if you would post your experience back here so we all know whether we can trust that account or not. If it is him, ask him to stop by occasionally..he has a lot of friends here.

I am skeptical as well especially the price you were charged. IIRC it was not that much and last I heard he had no more early boards/chips left.
In this case I want to see the white of his eyes before anything happens.

well he bought the adapter board and dual chip... =350... the extra $12 was probably to recoup any paypal fees.

if you do get in touch with him, ask him why he doesn't come around these parts anymore..

Ok not the area I pay much mind to so it seemed high in comparison to the PP2 etc.

My misunderstanding! Thanks Kyle..

Yes.
It was $200 for the perfmance chip, $150. for the dual board (i have a 1983 944) and $12. postage and paypal recoup fee.
He is 100% still there and perhaps even reading the posts.
I will let you guys/gals know when the board comes in and my experience with the installation.

His site was updated last month ( 2 days ago). It would be nice if z-man would un-ban his account so he can come on in and say " Hi ". I know I'd still be upset, if people didn't believe that I was the real deal even tho i was. Anyways Wilk Brother if you're out there *waves* " Hope life is good and enjoy yourself these upcoming holidays"

Cheers

well i wouldn't be upset... if i was providing a service, went away for a while.. someone took over my internet communications accounts while i was gone... and came back into service again after a period of time... I'd try to clear it up that it was in fact me... it'd just be good customer service...

I'm not saying wilk has bad customer service.. just the opposite, actually.. but I'll refrain from counting any chickens before they hatch.

zman disabled his account (or at least changed the password) to prevent what appeared to be an account hijack a few months back.
