Loss of *ALL* power
Driving along, the radio shuts off and turns back on. Whatever, keep driving.
Little later, stopped at a stoplight, and my car shuts off. Try to turn it back on using the key, no click, no lights, no sound, no power. Try to turn on hazards, no dice. A few seconds later, my headlights fold back down (key was in off position) Power must be back on! Turn the key, sure enough, starts right up. Radio doesn't work anymore  Gremlins? Is there a self cylcing breaker switch? Any ideas?

I am guessing that it's just a bad electrical connection on the battery or the starter. The car's main power comes from those two sources. Also check the main ground cable on the battery and where it attaches to the back of the block.

Could be an alternator...but when he said it would shut off and then start right back up a few moments later, that led me to believe that the battery was still charged but wasn't getting power to the car for a short period of time. One other possibility I thought of later was the possibility of a switch key.

my alternator was only putting out 11.5 -12.0V so things would intermitently work. Headlights would some times go down, car would not start sometimes, all sorts of goofy things. At around 12.0 volts it seemed like things just would work like they were suppose to. I took my alternator off and had it tested at Autozone and it confimed what I saw with my meters.

Well it wasn't like my car died, and I couldn't start it but my headlights were on.
ALL power was off. Headlights when off, all lights went off, stereo off, ignition off, it was like someone took my positive battery terminal off, then put it back on 30 seconds later.

Check your cables, start at the battery and work out. Check all ground connections. Welcome to Porsche........creators of magic electricity.....
