99 C4 Oil Seepage
Hello my 1999 996 with 45,000 miles has an oil seepage issue in the left rear section of the engine which I expect is the RMS seal. I have had few good experiences with the dealership - they are very happy to charge a fortune to test and replace everything - and instead brought the car to a local trusted mechanic (though not a Porsche expert). He said since the seepage was minimal that it might never become an issue and even if repaired it would probably still seep or even leak. My question is has anyone had a long-term oil seepage issue with their 996 that remained a minor annoyance or has it been everyone's experience that this is the beginning of a major problem such as RMS failure or engine replacement?

Welcome to the board! Might be worth having an independent shop take a look. There are plenty of recommendations on this board. I'm no expert but i believe most of the problem 3.4s were replaced early on.

Left rear (I assume you mean the flywheel end) could either be the cam actuator, spark plug tube or oil scavenge pump o-ring. The RMS will leak directly in line with the center of the case, under the flywheel.
