996 Clutch Problem(p/s) low

I have a 04 996 TT, clutch pedal was stiff and grabbed very suddenly way up high, checked the clutch master res. & was overflowing. turns out that the power steering fluid was very low(added about a .5 liter; power assisted )Dried everthing off, test drove & clutch felt fine , Put the car up in the air -no leaks to be found on clutch system or p/s system. Has anyone ever ran across this ? Is the some way that the p/s fluid could revert its way back through the clutch system causing it to over fill ? Could the slave cyl. go bad causing this ? Accumulator bad ? Thanks - Don

Don, When the clutch fluid reservoir is overflowing with what appears to be too much hydraulic fluid on a 993 turbo and 996 turbo it's usually a faulty clutch slave cylinder because the cylinder is bypassing internally. You may also have a faulty Hydro Accumulator because of your pedal feel but I would replace the slave cylinder first and then based on the test results afterwards determine if the Hydro Accumulator is OK. Please note, a fairly worn out clutch disc will also create a semi stiff clutch pedal also. Tony

Yes, it is possible to replace the power assisted Clutch Slave Cylinder without dropping (removing) the Gearbox but it is a complicated and involved process. I am not sure of your mechanical ability but please understand that it will take a trained Porsche mechanic approximately 4-5 hours to replace this unit.
