Does anyone know if aftermarket headers for 996's truly give any hp advantage over stock?
They come from the factory with headers already. Most aftermarket headers claim 12-15hp gains. Any input would be appreciated. |

The 3.4L engines will see some benefit, but they should the chip reprogramed. It's an expensive proposition for relatively small gains in power.

I don't think you can get those numbers by replacing the headers alone. I do know the OEM x51 manifolds/header have the larger openinings and are standard on the "S" models. I just purchased a set from a member on this forum, however I haven't mounted they yet.

When I had my 996, I dumped close to $5K into mods...headers, mufflers, RSS plenum, PSS9 suspension, GIAC flash, EVO CAI, etc....and I'll bet I didnt' pick up 35-40 HP. I still had trouble going against Mfletch who was running a few mods in his Tip.
The 3.4 L engine doesn't have much room for HP increases....especially if you just do one or two of the mods. The performance comes from all the mods working in concert....and sometimes, the mods work AGAINST you. I've seen instances of where guys post that the mod actually resulted in a reduction of HP based upon dyno info. Do your homework before you start down that mod slope....knowing what I do now, I wouldn't have done nearly as much as I did. Now the TT is a whole other matter....it sucks up mods for great gains.
