Durametric Diagnostic tools

I was reading another board and someone comments this is a great diagnostic tools to have.

This tool is diagnostic software tool with a USB plug/adapter that allows the codes to be read, cleared...on newer Porsche automobiles.

I went to the web site and the product appears pretty straight forward.

My car is out of warranty. I do like DIY projects but with todays modern technology I am attempting to avoid going to the independent service centers as much as possible. If this will help, I am interested.

I have a few questions:

1. Has anyone used/own this product?
2. If so is it worth the money?
3. Which one would you recommend, enthusiast/professional kit?
4. Easy to use/setup/user friendly?
5. And where is the plug on a 2003, 996 cab to use it?

All input is appreciated, TIA

I have a few questions:

1. Has anyone used/own this product? A: YES
2. If so is it worth the money? A: Absolutely fixed bad O2 sensor and MAF in one week and reset system without it going out to get it fixed.

4. Easy to use/setup/user friendly? A: Simple setup it's all on the CD or dwonloadable off web of course you need a laptop.
5. And where is the plug on a 2003, 996 cab to use it? A: Just above left knee abouve fusebox.

1. Has anyone used/own this product? YES, me too
2. If so is it worth the money? Absolutely, it pretty much pays for itself the first time you use it. I used it to verify my faulty brake light switch and confirm the fix was a success.
3. Which one would you recommend, enthusiast/professional kit? If you plan on owning several Porsches in the next few years, or know several people who would want to use it (and you're prepared to offer it on loan!) then buy the pro kit. If you don't see yourself owning more than three cars in the next 5 or 10 years then buy the enthusiast version.
4. Easy to use/setup/user friendly? Very. If you can install a printer then you can do this too.
5. And where is the plug on a 2003, 996 cab to use it? As correctly mentioned above - on the bottom of the dash to the left of the steering column above your left knee.

I assure you you won't regret buying this. I am sure one trip to the dealer for a diagnostic check will probably cost the same as buying one of these. Combine that with the ability to clear certain fault codes and check things on the car like time spent in over-rev conditions is both money saving and interesting! Definitely a good buy.

Its great, I used mine to clear my airbag code when I had my seats out to install my TE roll bar and needed to put the ignition on to check a connection.

As said, dealer cost to clear this would have paid for this so already paid for.

Plus the info you get live coming from the motor is always sweet to see.

Cheers

I just bought this kit for my 996....As the folks have already said; paid for itself first time I used it. Needed to find out what was causing the airbag light to come on; would have had to drive 150 miles to a Dealer to find the problem, then drive home, then fix the problem, then drive back up to the Dealer to clear the light.............big bucks. I bought the 'Enthusiast' and have never look back! This should be in every 996 tool box.
Good luck,

Cost? $247 from here:

www.durametric.com

You can occasionally find thm on e-bay. Even the enthusiat version is good for three cars (they record VIN numbers from the computer) so a used one will still be good if it's only been used on one or two cars. I bought mine for $100 from a guy selling his Boxster and that one car was all it had been used on - PERFECT!

I'm suprised Wayne doesn't sell them.
