Cheap performance chip

I have an 06 Carera S Cab.

Have seen some cheap 'performance chips' advertised from a number of sites.

If you were to believe their claims, they would have to be the cheapest performance upgrade available.

Has anyone had any experience with performance chips for non turbo 997s... or with this company?

Surge Performance Chip

Thanks in advance.

You have a car whose original MSRP was $90k+ and you're looking for "cheap upgrades"?? And shopping at "street beat customs"?

Really? Are you serious?

+1.
Spend the money with a reputable company (e.g. GIAC).

Unfortunetly you really on these cars get what you pay for.
I would tell you do nothing then too risk your engine with poor tuning, often these backyard or junkyard mechanics typically dont take into consideration that Porsche like most makers take huge sums of time ensuring that the car gives you huge performance along with longevity.

I used do deal with Japanese cars and over the years I would get tired of kids who simply wont pay for quality, you end up with a poorly engineerd piece of software that has a crap interface too its hardware along with this there ( practically jimmy rigged ) so that they manipulate the sensors rather than recalibrated via DME/ECU open source tuning.

Point in case GIAC is a good start. Or maybe just take that starbucks coffee money that we all spent and place that all aside in a little box that says make my Porsche go-go-go.
I promise you the money even in economic hard times suddenly and not magically appears before your eyes in this box =)

Point in case is : Your tuning is only as good as your Tuner & the software is only as good as the software programe writer, along with this goes into the hardware engineer who had too make it interface.

Wonderful feedback from the two mental giants.

Thanks for your thoughts Schwarzeritter. I'd be surprised to see a cheap, safe & easy performance upgrade, but it's not to say simple improvements are not out there.

Funny, but there are always tossers on Porsche/Aston forums who think ownership somehow elevates them in others eyes.

Cyotee01, hey I hope you didint think I was joining in a lynch-mob or anything as that is most deffinitly not my charictor in person. Its diffacult sometimes when reading someones post.
Your not face to face, so for me I am never 100% if someone is seriously going too attempt to something they might regret.

I just didint want you too end up dissapointed or worst with a hefty repair bill, also sometimes more often that not effects the warrenty of a vehicle " if that is a issue. "

I dont know what a Tosser is? Did you mean Possers? Just clearifying.

I guess where I am comming from is more merely mate that people sometimes dont get or understand the difference in that its not ultra easy too past all the encriptions Porsche, BMW. Lotus, Toyota, Honda, Ferrari, which can leave you really wishing had not touched things.

I dont think ownership nessarly elevates you.

I think honest it depends on what kind of performance you are trying too gain.
But I felt kind of bad because nobody really answerd your question but I sort of looked
at software tuning but you'll need a trained engineer for this one but you know I think its the best way a reflash of the DME which is nice because you can go back too stock anytime.

Good luck mate~

The point was that Porsche does an excellent job of optimizing the cars to work on a GLOBAL market... balancing emissions, driveablitity and performance all in one shot. Having a chip that trades one for the other seems silly to me. Over the years I've learned its the person behind the wheel that needs improvement, not the car and especially not a car as great as a 997S!

It would also seem to me that Manufacturers can do a better job of tracing non-factory chips and thus void any and all warranty claims for the car. In a car whose motor costs what, $15-20K this seems like a foolish risk. I imagine a better exhaust system might give you more reliable sound and performance gains than a compromised performance chip.
