Check engine light popped on

I have a '01 996 cab, and during a short drive today, the check engine light came on. Any self maintainace things I can check? Will it re-set itself, or can I re-sent it. The manual says it's still OK to drive. Correct? The cars feels fine. No smoke, no bad idle or rough engine at any RPM.
Thanks!

O2 Sensors would be a good start...

I'd get the durametric setup it pays for itself many times over.

Cheers

Had same problem with my '99 996. Smoke test of the engine revealed very small vacuum leak which was easily corrected (although a little spendy).

Quickest easiest is to check the gas cap, is it tight, is the seal good?

The same guy posted his fault code here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=443140 a couple of days later. So apparently he has at least done his first step towards a fix: DIAGNOSIS of the problem.

I don't think random guesses will add any value here. If a fault occors that triggers the CEL you need to read out the fault code(s) and then work from there. A CEL can mean literally hundreds of different things. Shotgunning will not get you anywhere. It's like saying: "I am in pain" and someone answering:"Hey, my bro had pain too a couple of years ago and it turned to be an ulcer. Try drinking lots of milk and you might be fine" ......

(sorry, couldn't help it)

Ya well, least we were trying based on the limited information. I did say to get the diagnostic tool!
