1999 996 hood release
I have a 1999 996 cab with a dead battery. Can anyone tell me where there is a manual release. the trickle charger in the cigarette lighter has not worked.

You need another battery to power up the system.
It's explained in the owners manual, on this forum (using search) and on other web sites. There is a release cable in the right fender well, but it's easier to power up the system through the fuse box.

My 99 C2 had a manual cable release....yours had an e-release? I didn't think they went to the e-release till 2000....dunno. Take out the sidelight (passenger side) and use a flashlight to look up towards the back of the headlight bucket....on the left side (looking from the back) you should see a sliver braided cable. Try to fish it out the sidelight opening and pull on it.....it's the emergency cable release. If you can't see it, you might have to take out the passenger's side wheel lining....unless you have the battery positive connector in the fuse box, then use a ground off the car body.
