Speedometer Pixels

Guys,

A buddy with a 1999 996 tells me that the digital speed reading is garbled and the dealer quoted him $ 2k to replace the unit.

Does he have any repair options?

Thanks, Ned

Some folks on Rennlist.com or Renntech.org have talked about replacing the display with parts purchased on Ebay. I can't remember if it was speedometer or Nav screen?? In the early cars there is a way to access other info on the speedo readout. You were not specific about the "Garbling” If it clearly shows something other then speed maybe the display was inadvertently changed.??

With the availability of used gage clusters from dismantlers I would be inclined to swap out the bad unit with a used one.
