It depends on how loud you want to be. Many of the aftermarket systems drone painfully at cruising speeds. Do a search here & at Rennlist.com and Renntech.org for lots of info and links to sound bites. Many decide to do the "*PSE hack" this usually cost ~$250 and uses your current mufflers, if 3.4 MK1 if 3.6 MK2. Do a web search for FisterD. He has mods for MK1 & 2 that many are very happy with. You will see many pics of mods 2 1/4" tube 1 1/2" J tube etc...

I went with the muffler bypass, and I love it. I also went with stainless headers. I don't notice any difference in performance, but the car sounds like a monster. It's loud, but that just makes it more fun

Have you looked at Fabspeed mufflers? Their products can vary from a mean rumble to barely louder than stock- completely depends on the application. 996 sounds moderately aggressive with their cans on. Great in a coupe, maybe not so much in a cab. Then again, most cabs tend to drone to me with aftermarket exhausts.

Another company to look at: Billy Boat. Haven't heard it on a 996, only 987. Very subdued. Like a Porsche Sport system with a little more 'throat' to the note.

K thx for the help guys i checked out all the sites an sounds lol seems these engines can really sound awesome if you let them ! um fpb111 the droning might be a problem for me this is my daily driver and in the summer i can really rack up the miles on roadtrips but i'm thinking having a louder exhaust will help keep the speed down i live in ontario an we have that 50 kilometer over law your life is done thing, so after all the looking an pricing decided i'm going to buy a exhaust manifold gasket set an make a set of headers an use hyabusa four into one cans , i can save my original exhaust for emmisions tests that way an i have all the tools to frabricate my own will save a ton of money, i raced bikes for years an made my own exhaust for my bikes this shouldnt be to hard an looks like its really going to be fun,i'll post the exhaust when its done with sound bites. i think its really going to have a growl lol
