996 must dos when you purchase

Gents, planning to buy a '02-'03 Porsche 996 C2. It will likely have 70-90K miles. What preventive or general maintenance should I do. Also could you recommend a reputable aftermkt warranty company. thank you, kenny

Have a PPI completed prior to any purchase!

Depending on what records you receive with the vehicle:

1. Change the oil and filter
2. Change the transmission fluid
3. Refresh the brake fluid
4. Be sure the 60k service has been completed
5. If the anti-freeze looks dirty change it a well

Check the coils and change the plugs and tubes

No spark plug tubes on the Mk II cars.

Be very aware of the M96.2 Carrera motors and the troubles they have, look for one with very low mileage or one that has had it's motor replaced on warranty with an updated IMS bearing. The replacement cost for a factory crate motor is upwards of $12-14K plus labor. If you can afford it buy a 996 TT, their motors are different from the Carrera motors and race proven. More importantly, Buy the June 2010 issue of EXCELLENCE magazine and read the Tom Callas article titled M96 IMS Failures and fixes.
Good luck
