Engine harness Q

I'm building an engine tester for 996 engines.

I need to acquire the harness that connects from the engine circle end
connector to the DMEs.

I've sourced a 99-01 connector, but I happen to have several 02+ engines.

Before I purchase the connector, I wanted to know if the connectors
are compatible. I know it won't have the dual variocam
but I wanted to make sure that pin 1 is still pin 1 -- or in other words
I plug the connectors in -- I don't get melted wires.

thanks,

mike

If I correctly understand your question, you want to know if you can plug an '00-'01 DME harness into a '02- DME and still have it run an '02- engine (albeit without the variable lift functionality of Variocam Plus). That won't work, because they moved approximately 25 signals when they transitioned to the 7.8 DME.

As to melting harnesses, I haven't looked too much at that but I *think* you're OK there. PM me with an email address and I'll send you a spreadsheet that shows the changes required at the DME connector to run a '02- engine using a 7.8 DME and the '00-'01 DME-side harness. You should be able to easily see any potential harness-melting issues.

Note that the '99 C2 is a mechanical throttle and the DME is not connector compatible with the later cars, so the harness you are sourcing must be for '00-'01 DMEs.
