Couple 3003 911 carrera 4 issues
i actually have several things to discuss. One is that i want to replace my Porsche Stereo with another brand like alpine. What is required to do this? I talked with Best buy and they were trying to sell me a complete over haul of my current system to include the wiring and speakers. i just want to replace the stereo so that it is HD, Satellite and iphone compatible.
Second i am looking at replacing the poly web belt i am assuming from this fancy name this is the serpentine belt, is that correct? how much trouble is it to replace? Can i do it myself? Third i have a built in radar detector and it is not working and i wan to replace it or repair it. does anyone know of someone who would repair one of these? |

Let's do the easiest first. That would be the serpentine belt. This takes about 15 min. Buy a new one from our host. Remove the air filter box (13mm). Use a 24mm socket with breaker bar to relieve tension from the idler pulley, pull off the old belt and put on the new. Take a picture of the way the belt goes over all of the pulleys before you remove the old one. Here is a link to the complete procedure from the RennTech 996 web site (you may need to become a member to access this): http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php/tutorials/article/57-changing-the-polyrib-belt/
Be aware that in the MY2003 Carrera, the OEM Porsche stereo was changed to a fiber optic type connection ("MOST") system that may not be compatible with non-Porsche after-market replacements. No comment on the radar detector. Good luck!

If it's the version with lights peeking through the console carpet, look for the control knob. It's usually on the right side of the console. Might be turned off or has a blown fuse.

88carrera is correct re: your audio system. If the head unit is a Becker ("Porsche") CDR023, then it is an all MOST fibre-optic system.....even from the amp to the speakers. If you don't have a CD Changer, there are MOST add-ons that take care of iPod/iPhone connectivity. They use the unused CD Changer connectivity port.
