No start / crank
My 01' C4 didn't start today. Doesn't even crank. Battery is good (12.6v). My experience points me towards a Starter Relay, but I really don't know. The fuses are all good. I wanted to check the relays in the rear shelf area, but theyre not labeled???
Now-Here's the curveball: Last night, I installed an Ipod patch cable. The cable plugs into the rear of my Becker CDR-220. In order to activate the Aux input, the FB? button must be held_to access the menu. Did I accidentally trip an anti-theft device etc.? I need some help please.. Thanks |

Could be simple, don't know if you tried this, close the car and lock and unlock it with the remote. Then see if that reset it.
If that does not work try the same using the key in the door.

My recommendation is this - try turning and holding the key for several seconds (30 or more). If it doesn't start, try doing it again. If it starts, replace the alarm box under the driver's seat (will require programming at dealer or SOS). I found out the hard way. The starter relay is almost NEVER the problem. Occasionally it can be the electrical portion of the ignition switch, but sounds like the immobilizer component of the alarm. I got to that conclusion the hard (and expensive way), by replacing every other component in the starting system. Good luck.

Thanks folks, but no luck yet. I failed to mention a prior possibly related issue. About a month ago- the key fob remote lock/unlock/bonnet buttons all stopped working. The battery in the key is good and the red led works.
ANy ideas? Please help |

I had the same, until I discovered that the floor mats sometimes get in the way of the clutch being depressed all of the way. Unless the clutch is fully depressed, it will not crank.
Hopefully it is that simple for you. |

Or even the clutch switch itself.
The switches live under the dash above the pedals. If you were poking around there you may have knocked a wire or even the switch loose.
