Litronic Issues

I have a 2000 996 cab with an intermittent driver's side litronic headlight. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
The symptoms are: initially it flickers and either comes on, or just won't light. Sometimes turning it on and off, causes it to "catch" and it stays lit.
I tried swapping out the bulb with a brand-new one, and no difference.
Could this be a relay, and or the igniter and or ballast?
I've also heard that it could be a defective headlight switch.
Is there an easy way to troubleshoot this?
The car is 11 years old, but only has 40K miles and is in otherwise perfect shape

My 2001 Boxster S with Litronic, warmly referred to as "Turd" (Shape and Macadamia Brown colour) has just developed the same problem. Both lights do it in unison so I am ruling our anything to do with individual bulbs or ballast for now. I'm thinking its the switch on the dash or some other central mechanism before the switch's "message" goes to the individual headlights. Mine is also intermittant and can work just fine sometimes.

Did you ever get yours resolved? If so, what was it? The switch?

I just replaced the switch on my '99 996 after the same problem, intermittent Lintronic headlights coming on. The new switch resolved it, working great now.

Yup. Mine turned out to be the switch on the dash as well. Simple inexpensive fix.
