Push in the clutch before you stop...
When you hook up your code reader what codes do you get?
Clean the idle control valve.
Clean the MAF.
Does it idle after you start it? How many miles? New Plugs? Vacuum leaks? What is idle speed after it warms up? ~850?

The clutch part was a

If you are having a lot of rain and the car is stored outside. Make sure that the drains in the area under the battery are clear. If water pools there it can be sucked into the engine through the brake booster and cause many problems.
I think there are only 2 in the early cars #5 in the pic. (Boxsters and 911 front are pretty much the same)

hi Frank
when i put the battery on charge i found over 1 inch of water sat below,so i took the battery out and cleaned out the drain plugs, one of which poped out so will have to take the wheel off later to put it back,i now have a cover for the car, after i put the battery back i went through the re-configer set up for the throttle hoping that would cure the stalling, but it did not,
my fuel fitter arrived today, but it is still raining, we have had the the most rain this June since records started in the year 1780, the jet steam is lower than it shoud be.

Rain and Miracle Grow will do wonders!
Get the drain rubber back in place otherwise the water will run right into the car.

just reread your post. Sounds like it popped out at the bottom. Not as bad of a problem as the top would be.

Do not put much/any? oil on the K&N. Oil fouled MAFs are one of the more common problems for poor running with a K&N.

Question all good now.

hi Frank,
drove the car for about 6 miles and did not stall once, tick over is about 900,and all is fine,
i have just ordered a set of spark plugs, oil fillter, and track rod arm,i have looked back at the history, and the plugs and oil have not been changed for 8k miles, and the track rod ball joint has small amount of play, can you advise on what ball join splitter i should use.
thanks, best regards John.

Progress! Often these cars sit in the garage too much, at least in the US, and driving them every day for a month gets things working better.
Plugs in these cars are on a 30k or 60k change schedule. Yours is an early one so 30k is standard I think.
Track rod, if you are refering to the tie rod ends on steering rack. I use my air impact hammer on the threaded end to pop them out. That is the way I do most ball joints also.
I have a "pickle" fork that I used before I got the compressor. That tends to pinch & cut the rubber boot so only if I am tossing the old part.

The 8k miles should have read 48k, so as you said time to change the plugs,i have another question for you, i have a noise coming from the rear suspspension when the road is bumpy, are there bushes i should take a look at, or lubricate some parts,i think its the pasenger side only, sorry to be a bit fague.
regards john.

Sway bar drop links, front and rear, tend to wear and rattle over bumpy roads. Also check sway bar and shock absorber rubber bushings.

Hi Frank,i replaced the spark plugs today, yet to run the engine as i ran out of daylight, what i do have a problem with is the wheel nuts, some of the built in spacers have disintergrated, one is stuck in the wheel, is this normal issue, they seem to be made of alloy, not a very good design.
regards John.

Normal issue? Not. Someone work on it with 400ft lb impact wrench?
