997 With Chrono Clock in Dash
May want to sit down when reading this.
I noticed on a morning drive on Monday that the white hands on the chrono clock were not moving when timer mode selected. Red second hand works but the two white hands are at 11 and 12 clock positions and do not reset to top center. Digital display and cluster displays work fine. On closer examination, the hands are curled outward and it appears that if the summer sun hits the face of the clock at the correct angle the the lens acts like a magnifying glass and super heats the clock face. My theory at least! Stopped by my local dealership to let them have a look and and to check on repair or replacement. When the service manager asked if I wanted to sit down I smiled and said no thanks. It can't be that bad right? $100 maybe $200 at the most. Replacement chrono clock for a 2006 997 cost, wait for it, $617 for the part and $100 for installation. After a few choice words questioning the family tree of Porsche I decided to research online. No idea how to remove the broken clock. Any suggestions on finding a chrono repair shop or used part. Thanks
