1999 Soft Brake Pedal?
Well, I have searched and looked and cannot seem to find what my particular problem is.
When you step on the brake pedal it almost moves down by itself. As if the vacuum is too much. the pedal then stays down and you have to stick your toe under it to get it back up or the brakes drag. The brake do work. Almost too well. I flushed the brakes, again, and took it to a local dealer. Good place. Offered to test drive and they spent about 45 minutes looking at the car with me. We checked the water in the booster and such. No water. Tried to operate the brakes with the oil filler cap off. No different. Removed vacuum hose to booster. Brakes work and feel fine. Just no boost assist. by this I mean you press the brake pedal and the pedal moves accordingly "down" and when you release the pedal jumps back up. The dealer suggested that there is a vacuum modulator that sits on top of the motor drivers side. Or is this the engine oil separator? And that this can go bad. But to get at this you have to drop the motor or remove the left cyclinder head. Yikes! Help..... Am I going to cut a hole in the rear deck, replace the part, hope for the best, weld the piece back into the deck, repaint, and re place the deck carpet. 1999 911 70k miles Never wrecked. Fun daily driver. Last edited by Baja Joe; 10-31-2012 at 04:31 PM.. |

It seems like it got worse over time. But quickly.
My wife had been driving the car and said that they brakes were feeling funny. When I first checked it it was only a 4 (0-10 being bad). I flushed the brakes and that seemed to help a bit, but it got worse and now the car sits. You cannot drive it. I plan to put the rear end up on blocks and crawl under there to try and see this vacuum part the porsche dealer mechanic told me to look at. Its on the drivers side and he said you should be able to see it. He said to grab the hoses and try to see if they felt oily or super soft (?). Again, I have heard newer cars have a cover you can remove from inside the car to access the top of the motor. I guess I am planning to cut out a section, and modify it so it will have a flange that will allow it to be reinstalled and sealed with screws. |
