mu 2001 boxster overheats if i leave the pressure release lever in the normal position. i have cleaned the 2 front heat exchangers, checked the water pump impellers, and the thermostat and replaced the coolant tank cap. i have to keep the pressure release lever up so it won't overheat but it sweats from the coolant pressure - please give me some insight on why it overheats when it is pressurized - thanks

Sounds like you may have a faulty head gasket. Especially if you have confirmed all other cooling system components are functioning. Double check that there is no air trapped in the system. If not, check the cooling system for C02, this is the best way to test for a head gasket.

When you say that you have cleaned the 2 front heat exchangers does that mean that you have removed the bumper cover, separated the air-conditioning radiators from the engine radiators and cleaned between them and the engine radiators?

The bail is a vacuum break not a pressure relief lever.
It, the square plastic shaft, is up when the engine is hot, bail flipped or not. The bail holds it up to allow pressure equalization as the engine cools and burps the cooling system.
