Battery replacement - 2006 997 C4S

Are there any special instructions that one must follow when replacing the battery in a 2006 997?

- disconnect negative connection
- cover connector with tape to prevent accidental contact
- disconnect positive connection
- loosen battery tie-downs
- remove old battery
- install new battery, connect negative first then positive
- re-code audio

Anything else?

Also, what is a good replacement battery for this P?

Cheers!

Alex

Alex,
I gave up on Porsche batteries as I went through two of them when the car was on warranty. Porsche did compensate after I was a PITA. So I took the advise in one of the forums and bought
One from Walmart at ~$160 with great no hassle warranty. I believe it's the H7 but do double check. Two years now and not a problem. Replacement procedure is as you described. I would protect the trunk floor and the leading edge of the battery shelf with rags as it might be easier to lift the batteries out and back in while standing in the trunk.
I never lost any setting but I understand that some do.

Thanks Uwon!

About batteries, I have a spare 6 month old, never used Interstate MTP-91 battery which I was going to use in my '80SC but went with an Optima instead. The MTP-91's numbers almost matches that of the H7 but not exactly...can I still try it in the 997? What are the consequences? Does it really matter that much, so long as they are all 12V and have sufficient CCA to meet requirements?

Cheers!

Alex

This is for 996. I don't think Porsche changed the battery tray on the 997. Your radio code should reset itself as long as it is the original audio system. I think that started ~2002
The Braille has gotten very $$$$. The Duralast AGM is more reasonable.

Had to upgrade my battery after 2.5 years on Group 48 Replacement Battery - Rennlist Discussion Forums

I prefer AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Gel type batteries
I replaced an Interstate MTP-H7 With a Braille 7548 AGM battery - direct replacement.

So I went ahead and installed the almost new Interstate MTP-91 battery on my 2006 997 over the weekend. Even though this battery is a bit smaller (shorter but same width) than the stock battery by about 2 inches, I found out by accident when I removed the older stock battery that there are actually two battery securing plate bolt holes on the floor of the battery compartment and so was able to install it without any modifications....it fit in there perfectly!

It started without any issues and all systems were operational without any re-coding required!....that was a pretty simple project...FYI!

Cheers!
