I am slowly starting to look at ....

either a 2001 911 Carrera4 or a used Cayman. I currently have a 2001 Boxster base so I am familiar with the ims issue.

Before I bought my Box I tried a 99 911 - it seemed pretty bland. So I am now looking at a 2001 Carrera 4 or a used Cayman. Can you tell me the differences between the 99 and the 2001 911? Handling differences? More power?

Any input is appreciated especially those who have or had the water pumper 911 and the Cayman. Now is not a great time to sell a convertible so I likely have till next spring to think about it unless I go down to the Porsche dealer and trade in my Boxster. Thanks in advance!

With the 996, 2002+ models have the 3.6L engine. Pre-2002 have the 3.4L engine. Difference of 20hp.

Two thousand one has E-gas, four more horsepower and improved interior materials, 2002 has a much bigger bump in HP and a glovebox.

All AWD 996s are E-Gas & 2000 >up. 3.4 996 engines are the least reliable M96 engines due to the thinnest cylinder walls.
