Anyone replace the 30MM nut on their oil lines w/ something other than Elephant nut?

Is that possible?

I just ---- feel a bit stingy in paying $50 bucks for a NUT!

Pelican Parts - Product Information: ERMP-0170000

Any idea? I was thinking of maybe heating up the pipe and bending it a bit to slip the old nut off... and then put a new nut on... Possible? Any other alternatives to a $50 nut? I will already have to buy the Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-PP901687

Unless... once again someone has any alternatives?

Thanks!

Paul

Doesn't answer your question, but the $50 nut works great. Cheaper than a new oil line.

or you could dissolve the aluminum in the threads of the original nut. drano or whatever acid is in it. can't remember.

Which oil line are you planning to repair with the nut? Reason I ask is because if its a line with a rubber section, you can cut the collars off the rubber section and have new hose installed at a hose shop. While you've got the line apart, slip off the nut and clean it like JW said. Or heat it up real hot and pick the aluminum out with a pick tool & some oven mitts.

If you already cut the old nut off, I believe I have some of those original size nuts in my collection for just this reason. But in order to use the used nuts I have, again you have to take apart the hose section.

I bought the Elephant nut/clip set but the threads in the nuts wasn't deep enough to pull my lines tight. I ended up machining two old nut I had to fit and using the Elephant clips.

I had to do the same repair recently, and since I have the Metric Oil Line fittings on hand it prompted me to speak with my local machine shop on making up a few 30mm Nut Savers....

They will also be available in 26mm in the near future.

For info please email me. The old "Autosport" email address is no longer.
