997 Metzger Coolant fitting Problem?

Went to a DE this weekend where a GT3 lost his coolant hose/fitting on the straight and spun/had to get towed. I was told these Metzger's have an issue with the fitting that tends to blow, and that there is a 'class action suit' out there somewhere because it happens so much.

This is a new topic to me…sorry I usually spend my time over on the air cooled section. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Nick

All of the turbo cars use multiple (the number six comes to mind) water fittings that are not made from a single piece of metal, but rather a main cast housing and a hose fitting that is coated with glue and pressed into the casting. Over time, the two piece connectors come loose, and eventually separate catastrophically, spewing coolant all over the place. A lot of tracks now require you to have fixed this problem before they will even let you out on the racing surface.

So how to fix it? Some use the Shark Works approach and either drill and tap, or pin the fittings to keep them in place:

Others have had a professional welder permanently fix the issue:

Both seem to work, but the welding seems to be the better of the two. Now the bad news: The engine has to come out of the car to do this either way.

Gotcha…is there a recall on this or one being considered? Geez this seems like a nasty issue to have dangling over our heads….

Thanks

(BTW, Roebling Road is a cool track)

It's a major topic over on Rennlist. The 04 GT3 I just got has the coolant pipes welded. I believe it's an engine out process.
