16 inch BBS Mahle 7J16 and 8J16, dont fit 1980 911SC

Hello and welcome

I have a question.
Recently i purchased in NYC 911 SC 1980 , and I had before porsche BBS 16 inch wheels with 225/45R16 R888 tires on them that I used on a mercedes
The front seams to fit, but the back is too wide.
Is there any chance the wheels will go in the fender when turning or will i damage the fenders, and dont even try
Or with narrow tires like 215 or 205 it will be ok.
Take a look

225 on Toyo R888 is quite a bit wider than 225 of some another tire manufacturer, so if you take some other tires, they should fit quite ok.

The rear wheels don't fit. Look at the centers and read the offset number. It should be ET, followed by two numbers.

^+1; looks like wrong offset. Are those aftermarket rear flares?

Porsche and Mercedes have different bolt circles. Obviously if they fit one car normally, the other will need thick spacer/adapters. Are you using adapters on the Porsche? That would explain the issue.

Be wary of a close fit. I had some that looked close but I thought they fit. Then I discovered gunk on the inside of one rear fender. Eventually I realized I was skimming rubber off the tire edge during hard right turns. Ended up getting different wheels.

woah, that MB w123 Coupe (I guess a 280CE, M110 DOHC) is real cool!

reminds me of my former attempt, a 79 280ce, 5-gear handshift, no sunroof

Mercedes is made wider and haz 30 and 50mm spacers/adapters 5x112 to 5x130.
The wheels are porsche wheels.et 11.

Deos et 11 fit rear 911 sc?

Ps. I have the same c107 intake in mercedes and custom lsd. You schould invest in 6mm thicker rollbars. Compare my car on h&r and sport shock before and after rollbar upgrade. Car before paintjob was on oem rollbars. After paintjob 30mm front and 20mm rear

ET11 is fine for the rear of a 911. Are you saying that you do not have adapters or spacers on the rear of that 911?

You don't have enough negative camber on the rear. Sounds like i'm making something out of nothing but it's true. Negative camber in the rear makes ALL the difference.

Point of reference, I used to run 245/45-16 on 16x9 BBS ET+15mm with 14mm spacers. Effectively an offset of zero. They cleared the fenders with no problem. This is a '87 Carrera with no modifications to the rear flares.

So I de-modify the above car by taking off the rear suspension and I did not mark my alignment on one side of the car. So I eyeball the alignment bolts just to get the car rolling. I reinstalled a 16x8 BBS ET+11 with 245/45 tires. Forgot to take the spacer off & didn't get enough negative camber in the eyeball alignment. Tire rubbed the fender lip hard enough to slice the sidewall of the tire and also distort the fender lip. Damn...... So I remove the spacer and I still have clearance issues. Need to get the alignment dialed in back there so it clears.

thank you KTL,
the car stands rather high, i will look into camber adjustment.
its a stock 911sc 1980, stock flares and wheels should go in with no complications, thx for confirming et 11 is ok.
ill get back after i dry to give it more negative on the rear

Either this is not ET11 or it is not 8" bead width, it sticks out too far for that spec to be correct

stock SC rear fit is either 7ET23.3 or 8ET10.6, if it was an 8ET11 it would sit a tad more inboard than a stock 8ET10.6

just to have some idea of how they fit compared to 7ET23.3
8ET10.6 sits 25.4mm more outboard but still w/ plenty of lip clearance
9ET15 sits 33.7mm more outboard but still w/ plenty of clearance
9.5ET19 sits 36mm more outboard and will need some work to clear the lip w 275 tires less w/ 255 tires

I agree with Bill. If I had to guess, I'd suspect there are 20-25mm spacers on there.

appologies to all.
thx Bill and Arne for not beliving in me. Stupid of me.
You are right, i didnt expect 20mm spacers for stock 16 inch Fuchs wheels.

There are 20mm spacers.
Now all i need new nuts for 20mm longer bolts.
Thx for help.

So what you had w/ 20mm spacers was 8ET-9
