6 month storage

2009 Twin Turbo…getting ready to put her to sleep for the summer in the deep south. I know all the normal procedures for fluids, Sta-bil, over inflated tires etc. I've added a new one lately for short term storage…popping the frunk and letting it stay popped while I'm back up north…supposedly the light turns off after two hours so the battery won't die, but more importantly, if it does die, I don't have to go through the entire fuse box procedure for getting power to the car to get it open so I can charge the battery…that's happened to me before with my 996's.

So….here's my question: for long term storage, should I just disconnect the battery, losing all my settings etc, but keeping the battery in better shape? I'm hesitant to keep a trickle charger on it for 6-7 months, for fear of fire and lightning strikes going through the circuits etc. No one will be around to check to the car, so I'm feeling like the battery being disconnected is the best idea.

Ideas/Opinions?

Thanks

Nick

You can leave the car on a quality battery maintainer (not a trickle charger) literally for years without an issue. If you are concerned about lightning, put a surge suppressor on the maintainer (plug in unit from RadioShack, etc.). You will have no problems.

Thanks dreamer. I hadn't thought of the surge suppressor.

Accrochez-vous bien de vos rêves in your signature block means "hold on to your dreams'

That's where I was going with the "dreamer" reference.
And I'm holding onto my Porsche dreams like grim death!

Thanks again.
