996 ims problems

Hi! Are all 996 models included in ims problems?? My european serial #wpozzz99zys644500. Bought new in germany july 2000 & no problems that i am aware of with 30,000 km. Car is located several hours from a dealer so i have done all service except for tires & local traffic inspection. No oil leaks & oil on changes looks good ! No bits! Thanks

Yes, all M96/97 engine Porsches before 2010 have some risk of IMS failure. None of the different designs are immune to the problem.

They don't all fail. Many M96/97, M86/87 run well over 100K miles.

Per the Porsche IMS lawsuits, the 1999 with the dual row bearings have a less than 1% failure rate. The later single row bearings have ~8% failure rate.

Is there a way to tell from VIN or manufacture date if a 1999 is a dual row bearing or single row bearing?

All 1999 cars were dual rows.

2000 and 2001 cars can go either way, the only way to know for sure is to pull the car apart and look at the bearing.
