Proper oil pressure
I just test drove a 99 996 with about 55K miles. Car looks like it has been maintained very well with 3 owners for 4 or 5 years each and dealer servicing according to the carfax. Oil pressure guage was pegged at 5 bars for first 10-15 minutes. When I came off of the parkway after highway speeds it did begin to fluctuate dropping to about 2.5 bars at idle. It was 85 degrees out and running AC. These numbers are a bit higher than I am used to in my aircooled SC...Do they sound OK?

Yep... Anything over 3500 RPM should result in healthy 4+ bar
