Unhappy 99 tiptronic trans flashing red light

I have a 99 C-2 that I just put a rebuilt transmission in and I am getting a flashing red light that jumps between "D" and "4th" gear. I used my Durametric and got two fault codes....P-0717 and P-1770.
Does anyone know what this suggests??

P0717 (Porsche codes 91 and 92) Stall speed, transmission input - signal implausible Gear monitoring, transmission input speed - signal implausible Possible causes: - Open circuit - Wiring - (Porsche Short circuit to B+ - Transmission input speed sensor code 91) - Short circuit to ground - Torque converter - ATF level not OK - Transmission - Slipping clutch or brakes - Faulty torque converter.

P1770 Load signal from ECM Substitute Motronic value, fixed shift map (KFO)

Both codes can be caused by not having all the wiring connections tight.

Added transmission fluid and I am only getting one fault code now P-0717. When I start to drive the car it shifts from 1st to second but then tries to skip 3rd and go to 4th and red lights flash between "4" and "D" also the check engine light comes on at that point. I stopped and started a number of times while test driving. On one of the starts the car DID shift from 2nd to 3rd but bumped hard when it shifted. My guess at this point is it may be one of the two elect. connectors going into the transmission not seating properly or is it possible the transmission linkage could be off enough to cause the problem?

This is an electronic problem.

Thanks JFP, I'll start to case it down. I looked at the two transmission plug connector and they

looked OK. Where do you suggest I start first? Thanks again, BF
