Headlight Bulb options or upgrades

I have the halogen headlights, what bulbs can or should be used? Can I change the bulbs to white light without doing a HID retrofit?

What are you guys running?

I have a 996 with the base headlights. I changed the low-beams to the HID retrofits bulbs with a kit from DDM Tuning. This seems to work very well. Have had these installed for about a year or year and a half, and no problems.

Just be aware of two points: HID retrofits into lamp housings designed for halogen bulbs are ticket bait as well as a guaranteed failure at inspection time in many states now due to both glare (halogen housings lack a focusing lens) and the fact that many kits are not DOT approved, which makes them illegal for use on public roads; and when doing a PPI on retrofitted cars, we list the kits as a "deduct" item due to the previously mentioned issues, as well as the fact that replacement parts are nearly non existent.
